The Girl On The Inside Reflection of Out Of My Mind Book

October19

Look in the mirror
what do you see
ugliness,skinny,fat,
short,tall,skin color
are you to different?

Have you ever looked inside
you could be strong,
pretty,smart,courageous.

But you won’t let anyone know
they think you’re too different
but do they really know
you are great on the inside
you just have to show
let your light shine
from your inside.

They see the girl on the outside
but you know
the girl on the inside.

Literary Response

Out Of My Mind

Here are some things I learned from Out Of My Mind that make me think about things differently. To start with,I like is how it’s in Melody’s sentiment. “Hmmmm your friend Rose from school? I buck and kick with excitement.” This sentence helped me learn how people with Melody’s disability can have feelings. Not to mention,I like how Rose is in the story. “At school Rose whispered to me just like I’d seen the other kids do when they have secrets. I felt like a real girl.” This helped me learn that people with the same disability can be a great friend. Notably,I like how Melody goes to Mrs. V’s house. “Can Melody stay a little longer to study.? I’ll give her dinner and bring her home in a couple of hours.” This sentence shows me that people with the same disability are extremely clever and can learn just as well as we do. These are the things that I learned about Melody. All of these things helped me view my daily life differently, because now I realise that I am blessed to have what I have and can do what I can do.

Sharon Draper writing

September7

Sharon Draper’s book Out Of My Mind really stands out to me. Here are some of the things that stand out.One of the things I like most about Out Of My Mind is she makes feel like you’re a part of the story. ” The wimp and the whoosh of the furnace coming alive each morning. The tangy odor of heated dust as the house warmed up.” These sentences make me feel all warm inside. Another thing I like is she makes you feel like you’re a part of the story. “When I was little I remember sitting in our kitchen, being fed breakfast by my mom, and a song came on the radio that made me screech with joy.” This sentence makes me so happy inside. She also uses very descriptive language that creates imagery. ” I had no way to explain how I could smell freshly sliced lemons and see citrus toned in my mind as it played.” This sentence just makes taste sweet and sour lemons. Those are some of the things that stand out to me in Sharon Draper’s book Out Of My Mind.

Child Labor

April18

I think child labor was a bad idea! Who would put kids to work for their factory? Why couldn’t they just do the work? And I know we will all  have to work someday, but why the little kids? They didn’t do anything to deserve that! I would much rather go to school. So u can learn about yourself. Get to meet new friends, learn your personality! Not work in a stinky, old, ugly, run down,Mill factory! Why would you put your kids to work at young age when they could learn! You could also put your own kid in danger! If you have heard, some of the Mill factories burn down! And some of the kids might bully them, the teachers could be rude,or think about the place they stay! Would YOU put YOUR kid to work?

Being President

March22

If I was in one of the three branches I would want to be in the Executive Branch. I have always wanted to be the first girl president. I  just want to make an impact on someone. To show you can do anything you want to be. I am tired of boys telling girls they can’t do something because we are weaker, shorter and so much more. I think that I will prove them wrong if I was president. Also because I have always wanted to live in the White House! The big rooms! A bowling ally!! Just think of how fun it would be to live in the White House!! I know that it is going to be tough but I am all in. I think that if I was president it would be a fun journey!
